Dr. Herbert Tsang (曾浩斌) is currently the music director and conductor of the SINFONIA MOSAIC and the Chown Memorial and Chinese United Church Youth Band. In addition, he is the president of the Church Music Ministry of Canada, an organization with mission in equipping ministry leaders in worship renewal through church music. Recently, Tsang is appointed as the Co-Director of the Centre for Worship Studies at Carey Institute.
Tsang travels widely as guest conductor, lecturer and clinician. Tsang's areas of interest include choral and instrumental conducting, the history of Christian worship, worship practices in various denominations, biblical and systematic theology of worship, the role of music and the arts in worship, and consulting with churches on worship renewal. Also an advocate of contemporary music, Tsang continues to commission and premiere many compositions of contemporary composers.
Tsang received Doctor of Worship Studies degree at the Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies, Master of Music degree from Boston University's School of Music, where he continued his musical studies at the doctoral level. He also earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Simon Fraser University. Additional musical and theological studies at the Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts, the Royal School of Church Music (Diploma in Sacred Music), the Alliance Bible Seminary (Postgraduate Diploma in Theology), and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
